Our Story

A KaMoss fan enjoying a fresh matcha smoothie by the sea

Like a lot of people, our first cup of matcha was a disappointment: dusty, bitter, and dyed an unnatural neon green. It tasted like something scooped from a supplement tub, not a drink anyone would look forward to. It was nothing like the smooth, vivid bowl matcha is meant to be, a ritual with centuries of tradition behind it, whisked fresh and drunk within minutes of being made. That gap between what matcha could be and what was actually on the shelf is the entire reason KaMoss exists.

So we set out to fix it: to bring the real thing to everyday mornings, without the ceremony feeling out of reach, and without needing a cupboard full of accessories or a weekend course in tea ceremony to get it right. Sift, whisk, drink. That is the whole ask.

One product, done properly

Most matcha brands overwhelm you with grades, blends and formats until you are comparing six different tins just to work out which one you actually want. We do the opposite. KaMoss makes exactly one thing, a 50g tin of ceremonial-grade matcha, and we obsess over getting that one thing right rather than spreading ourselves thin across a catalogue.

No filler leaves bulking out the blend, no bulking agents to stretch the batch, no confusing lineup of near-identical products. Just matcha worth whisking every day, from a brand that is not trying to sell you five other things while you are at it.

Matcha's roots run deeper than most people realise. Long before it became part of the Japanese tea ceremony, whisked powdered tea was born in China, and that is where ours comes from, a heritage we are quietly proud to carry.

What “ceremonial grade” actually means

Matcha comes in a wide range of grades, and the label alone does not tell you much on its own. Culinary-grade matcha is coarser and more bitter, made to survive being mixed into milk, batter or baking, which makes it useful for lattes and desserts but rarely pleasant to drink on its own.

Ceremonial grade sits at the finer, smoother end of the scale: young, high-quality leaves, stone-milled to a silky powder meant to be whisked with water and drunk as-is. KaMoss is ceremonial grade throughout, so it holds up whether you whisk a traditional bowl or pour it over milk for a latte.

A ritual, not just a drink

Part of what draws people to matcha is the two minutes it takes to make it properly. Sifting the powder to break up clumps, warming the water to the right temperature (never boiling), whisking in a brisk zig-zag until it froths and turns a vivid jewel green. It is a small, deliberate pause built into a morning that might otherwise be all autopilot and scrolling.

We think that pause matters as much as the caffeine does. It is the difference between grabbing a drink on the way out the door and starting a ritual that is actually yours, something you do for yourself rather than to yourself.

“Calm, steady focus without the crash of coffee. That is the whole pitch, and the whole reason KaMoss exists.”

Who KaMoss is for

KaMoss tends to resonate with a few kinds of people: those cutting back on coffee who still want a proper lift in the morning, anyone who finds the jitters and the afternoon crash of espresso hard to live with, and people who simply prefer a calmer, steadier kind of focus for work or study. It also suits anyone who has tried matcha before and been put off by a bitter, low-grade tin. This is the version worth giving a second chance.

You do not need to know anything about matcha grades or whisking technique to get started. The instructions are on the tin, and the first bowl takes about as long to make as a coffee does, slightly longer if you stop to actually enjoy it.

Quality you can actually trust

Because we only sell one product, there is nowhere for quality to slip. Every tin is the same ceremonial-grade, stone-milled matcha, with no cheaper filler batches quietly mixed in to pad out a range and no confusing tiers designed to upsell you into the “proper” version. We would rather you trust the one tin we make than have to guess which of five you should buy, or wonder whether the cheaper option in our own range is secretly worse.

Calm, steady focus without the crash of coffee. A ritual that takes two minutes and grounds your whole morning. Real quality at a price you can justify drinking daily, not just on special occasions. That is the whole pitch, and the whole reason KaMoss exists.
